Rock Climbing: The Ivy Street School at Boston University

Ivy Street School partners with Boston University to offer an adaptive rock climbing program for students. The rock climbing program takes place at Boston University's Fitness and Recreational Center in partnership with both BU’s rock climbing program as well as BU’s physical therapy program. Rock climbing coaches, the Ivy Street physical therapist, the Ivy Street program coordinator, additional Ivy Street staff members, and Boston University physical therapy student volunteers work together to monitor rock climbing sessions, working with each participating student's individual needs.

The BU physical therapy doctorate program has integrated the rock climbing program into their curriculum as part of a community project requirement.

The goals of the rock climbing program are to improve strength, balance, coordination, confidence, and self-esteem. Rock climbing encourages team work, helps students conquer their frustrations and fears, and provides a fun and engaging experience.
