I graduated in 2007. I really enjoyed the team sports, particularly basketball. Since graduating I have recently started working on a cruise line called the Odyssey. I am working on getting to my dream job at the aquarium. I have watched the Celtics win the finals against the Lakers, and I plan on watching the Red Sox beat the Yankees again!

The kids in Ivy Street School are just like me. I’m not saying that they have all the same challenges, I’m saying they’re like me in the way that I need assistance in what I’m doing.

I became a student at the Ivy Street School after I had a traumatic brain injury in a car accident when I was seventeen. At the school I learned how to cope with the results of my injury and be an independent young woman. There are a lot of people who helped me get to this point, and helped me get a job where I can make a difference in other people’s lives.

I have had several jobs. First I worked at the MAB kiosk selling socks and pillows and jewelry. Now I help out at Les Petits Nursery School. I love working with children.

Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Ron Suskind brought his animated conversation to a full room at the Ivy Street School this week. Fresh off his dazzling keynote speech at the John Pratt Memorial Lecture in early May, Suskind demonstrated his innovative and creative new app called Sidekicks.
I can see now that recovering from a brain injury is very challenging, and at times seems impossible. It took a lot of hard work and understanding, by my doctors, parents, school, and most importantly, myself. I feel as though I have earned a gold medal in brain injury recovery.

The Ivy Street School was the first place in which I felt truly supported. I learned how to do the right thing in different situations. I learned to take the advice of the staff and have patience with myself.

Ivy Street has such a beautiful lesson. The lesson at Ivy Street is that we can help people no matter what kind of problems and give them the right future.
